Raleigh launches new mental health crisis program

RaleIight will soon launch a program this summer that provides resources during an emergency, especially for those in the mental health crisis.

It is called CARES programWhich means an alternative response to sympathy and support. The voltage of $ 2 million was partially funded by the Covid-19 relief package known as the US Rescue Plan. The RaleIight Emergency Communications Director, Dominique Notter, said that 911 operators will answer calls first, which will pass through the program’s crises.

He said: “With the receipt of the call and listening to the caller, they will determine the callers in the crisis.” “They were transferring the call, or they delivered it to the advisor inside the center.”

Next, the advisors will evaluate the resources needed to help the person.

Michelle Malet, Chief of Staff of Rally City, works with Cares. Maleit said that the program was created due to a protest from society, after the killing of George Floyd.

“One of the important things for us is to think outside the box and think about how to support people who may not necessarily have the arrival and traditional means of resources,” she said. “Therefore, this program itself connects people with resources, who need it more than others.”

Raleight currently has a program called Acorns – Crisis Treatment through Awareness, Discomances, Networks and Service – which includes law enforcement officer with a social specialist for specific calls. While they are two separate entities, ACORNS and Cares will work together.

Malit said in the spring, Cares will host monthly meetings to obtain notes from the audience. She added that they hope to start the entire Cares program in June.
