Phoenix Children’s CEO Bob Meyer steps down after more than 2 decades

• Bob Mayer, CEO of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, retires after 22 years, prompting the national search for replacement.
• Under the leadership of Mayer, Phoenix children expanded from a rented space to a healthy system with 50 sites and 8,000 employees.
• Mayer supervised the development of specialized programs, including transplants and a joint bone marrow transplant program with Mayo Clinic.

Bob Mayer, CEO of Phoenix Children, said on Thursday that he would retire after 22 years at the head of the children’s health system.

“Mayer Phoenix has led to children for more than half of his presence,” Phenix children said to the Republic of Arizona.

For many Phoenix residents, Phoenix Children’s Hospital is known for its main hospital, a 11 -storey tower visible by state 51 and note its white logo in the hand and red lights glow at night.

But Phoenix children is more than one hospital. It is a healthy system for children who have 50 locations in the valley, including two ambulances, as well as children’s hospitals in East, Avondale and Glendale. The system includes more than 1,400 primary care providers for children and a total of about 8,000 employees.

“We are very grateful for a pop on his leadership and dedication in Phoenix for children and our society.” Michael Ebert, Chairman of the Board of Children at Phoenix, said in a statement prepared: “His impact on this organization and the families that we serve is not measured.”

The hospital system began in 1983 with 32 introductions working outside the rented area inside what was then known as the Saleh Samari Hospital, or “Sam Good Sam”. Good Sam is now the medical center of Banner Phoenix University.
