Priorities to prevent mental illness between children and youth

David and Wooded

Mental health problems can have a long shadow on a child’s life. They can address them early and provide strong support systems to alleviate long -term effects, and help young people build a basis for a healthier and prosperous future.

The mental health of children is affected by a group of factors, such as peer relationships, family dynamics, living conditions and environmental factors, and racism and discrimination experiences. Childhood investment It explores how the government can use its powers to prevent mental health difficulties in children, invest in what is successful, and avoid the need for more dangerous interventions. It defines six decisive fields for immediate work, from the period surrounding the birth and early years, to schools and colleges, and by entering the labor market.

The report calls on the government to invest in childhood and give every young man the best opportunity to obtain good mental health. The procedures based on the evidence determined by it are much less expensive than allowing young people to escalate in order to require specialized care, or to face financial adversity and lifetime defects.

With rates of mental health problems between children and young people see a significant increase in the past decade, the government must now act to convert the tide:

  • Take steps to address the social determinants of children and youth mental health
  • Improving mental health support for mothers during the period surrounding birth
  • Invest in evidence and maternity programs based on evidence
  • Expand the workforce of nursing in the field of health nursing
  • Supporting years of education in the early years, schools, colleges and universities to adopt a full educational approach to mental health
  • Establishing an open -reaching mental health center in every society in England
  • Create a program at the country level to invest in promoting mental health led by society and the activity of preventing mental illness.
